I was going around the house the other day looking for appliances that have no need to be plugged in and "on". This "hunt" was spurred by my electric bill this month. I usually put my MP to sleep overnight but is there an energy savings if I were to turn it off and unplug it? Does the powerbrick still use electricity if in a sleep state?

Presumably it will use electricity if its charging, even if your PB is sleeping!!!

Even if it's only plugged in it will consume some power.

A good tip is also to allow your home to be several degrees warmer in summer and several degrees cooler in winter, both of which will help your electric bill as well.

Actually, looking for those little things are hardly worth it, most of them just use electricity to keep led clocks and such going, which aren't taking much power. Your just penny pinching there. The big consumers of electricity in a house are the furnace/air conditioner, the hot water heater (if it's electric), stove, fridge, dryer, and washer when they are on. Another smaller option is to find any light that you use alot and change it from incadescent to flourescent, or keep it off if your not in that room.
Getting new appliances helps alot, but of course, you don't do this often (costly). I did a couple years ago when I bought a new house and reduced energy quite a bit.
