Can I use any third party cd/dvd burner in a Powermac G5? Will the metal door still work with a standard drive?
Thanks!

I installed a newer Pioneer meachanism in mine. There's a little face plate on the front of the disc tray that slides off if you push up on it that will make it able to accomodate the slot opening in the front of the tower.

I'm not near it right now, but I know what you are talking about. Does the combo drive that came with it have the tray plastic faceplate part removed by default? I can't remember...

Cool, thanks! Any recommendations for a DVD and CD burner in one? I'm looking for quality on a budget

Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D (dvd dual layer burner) works great with 10.4, so I guess same applies for newer 112D model.

The $30 18x burners on newegg work fine, they are mostly samsung's and lite-on's.
