I have a 20" G5 C2D iMac, about 4 months old. I'm worried about the SuperDrive.
Twice, I've gone to open a DVD using VLC, and the DVD appears, but when I click on it, it appears to be empty. If I try to eject the disk using the keyboard, nothing happens. When I click on it, to drag it into the garbage, the icon disappears off my desktop. However, the DVD is still in the drive. This has happened twice, with 2 different DVDs.
Also, the Superdrive is noisier than any other disk drive I've had (previously, I had a 17" G5 iMac, which bit the dust, and before that, a G3 iBook, and before that, a G3 PowerMac) and it frequently takes a while to respond, for example when I pause a video and then start it again.
Is this is a sign of a bum drive? I'm not too impressed, because my previous iMac died of a failed logic board, after less than 1.5 years.
