Can anyone help here ...
I've just taken over a 3-yr old G4. The headphone out works fine. But the audio out is too small to take the lead that connects to my Viewpoint monitor with built in speakers. (I can plug the monitor into the headphone out and get a little volume but not enough). Is there a simple adapter?
Thanks

The headphone out is the speaker out. There's no difference. It's just a matter of what you want to plug into it.

The other port you're looking at is a digital audio out, for Apple's Pro speakers.

I see ... so does it make sense that I'm getting some volume out of my monitor speakers, but not much. (The volume is high when I plug actual headphones in there.) And does anyone have any recommendation for some speakers that I can connect to the digital audio out port - not dead cheap but not too expensive either?

First you need to confirm the type of digital signal and the connector types before you spend money on digital speakers. Are you sure that you need digital speakers? I haven't checked in a while, but the cables alone are expensive not to mention the speakers. To warrant a digital system, I think you would first need to have a need for surround sound, otherwise regular stereo plus a subwoofer should suffice.

Why not just disconnect that monitor's worthless built-in speakers from the audio-out port so you can buy a standard set of desktop computer speakers instead?

Okay, I'll get some standard speakers. One last query ... does it matter whether standard speakers are USB or use the audio out port?
