Hi all.....

This is a bit pre-mature, but I have just purchased 2 samsung Synchmaster 22 inch displays and am anticipating the arrival of my new mac pro quad in the mail any day now.

I have never used a mac OR 2 displays before, but what I would like to do is create one big monitor out of the 2 I have. I know it's possible, so can I please have some advice on how to do this??

thanks a lot.......

All of the Mac Pro's potential graphics card have two DVI connectors. Hook up your monitors and it should automatically (automagically is actually a nice word for it) recognize them. If you wish to change anything (e. g. set a different main screen), please post here again and we'll help you. I can guarantee you it won't take longer than a minute to configure it.

If the video card you got supports two monitors and you plug they both in it will do it automagicly
If not get a second video card and plug the second monitor in and then it will do it automagicly... Your dock will live on the first monitor and as long as you leave both monitors plugged in all your applications will "remember" where you left themas go back to the same place. And welcome to the mac community aka the good life!

Thanks guys. I did a bit of research online and I found several articles referring to 'mirroring' and 'non-mirrored' displays. I believe I will be able to select either, somehow, and get what I want. "mirrored" displays is, I think, what I want. I will post back here and let you know what happens ( when I get the rest of my studio, that is )..

All the best,

Actually, "mirrored" would be the same stuff, X2 on each display. You'll want to turn mirroring off. It's dead-simple, really. Plug in both displays, start up your Mac, then launch System Preferences, and choose "Displays" in the Hardware section. It'll give you a set of options where you can set one as the primary, and one as the secondary (drag the white menubar from one to the other in the set-up pane to change primary displays) and you can also drag the icons for the displays around in the pane to arrange them on different sides of each other. There's a checkbox for mirroring at the bottom that you'll want to uncheck if it's checked.
