Hi folks - hope someone can give me some advice/help. I stupidly udated my itunes version 5 to 7 and too late realised I needed OS 10.4.7 and only have 10.4.2!

Is it going to cost me much to upgrade? I am in the UK

you mean you have 10.2? Cause an upgrade from 10.4.2 to 10.4.7 should be free

The only thing it comes up with that might be relevant is this:

(I dont have OSX Tiger though!)

The 10.4.10 Update is recommended for PowerPC and Intel-based Mac computers currently running Mac OS X Tiger. This update includes general operating system fixes, as well as specific fixes or compatibility updates for the following applications and technologies:

- RAW camera support
- Mounting and unmounting external USB devices
- Support for 3rd party software applications
- Security updates

For detailed information on this update, please visit this website: About the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update (combo).
For detailed information on security updates, please visit this website: Apple security updates.

OK you seem to be a bit confused here. With Apple the first number after the 10 (i.e 10.2) is a new version of the OS and they are paid upgrades - 10.2 to 10.3 to 10.4 and so on. The second number after the 10 (i.e. 10.2.8) are free upgrades (bug fixes, security patches, other bits and pieces) that come along regularly between version updates. To find out what version of the OS you are running go to the blue apple on the top left, and first option down it says 'About This Mac'. The box that comes up will tell you what version you are currently running. It sounds like you might be running 10.2, if so iTunes 7 will not run on that earlier version of the OS. If that is the case, you can reinstall iTunes 5 from the install disks that came with the computer.

Well, you do have Tiger, the update wouldn't have appeared if you didn't. Do all of the updates listed and iTunes should work.

Also, post in the right forum next time.

Go to the blue "" in the upper left hand corner and click it, then click "About This Mac", a window will pop up and under where it says "Mac OS X" should be the version number. Please post that here.

Apple - Support - Downloads - Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (Intel)
Apple - Support - Downloads - Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (PPC)

Found them - in other music folder - amazed as I have a music folder - which I'd named misc - for files that appeared on my desktop. I am not kidding when I say I genuinely thought that was all I had left. Had no idea they were saved in a place other than Itunes folders! You must think I am a right plonka! Dragged over and now will need to sort into some kind of order. that's me needing a right good poke in the head! LOL

Without Itunes I'd be up creek without boat never mind paddle

Cannot thank everyone enough.

So glad I found this forum
