My trusty old machine (G4 800) keeps trundling away, but I had noticed of late that it was running a bit noisier than it had done at one time, with the fan seemingly running at full power continuously. Now I do live in a hot country, particularly these summer months, but I had resorted to my usual summer tactic of placing a desk fan blowing over it to try and get the internal fan to run a bit less, but it didn't seem to be having any effect. So this morning, before starting up, I had a look at the air intakes running around the bottom. They were clogged with dust! So, carefully I took a tooth-pick, and removed what were quite solid little mats of congealed stuff. This meant the fan was having to work extra hard to suck air through, and now they're removed, the air can flow in freely, the fan is much quieter.
If you are lucky enough to have one of these wonderful machines, it might be worth have a little look down there yourself.
