I just got a new Imac G5. it's been pretty good, but apparently i did something to the short name and so everything on my computer appears to be lost. i searched google and found "Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4or later: Return to default desktop, apparent "loss" of home directory".

the explanation of the problem is exactly what i experienced but i don't understand the "fix" and i dont' want to mess up my computer even more.

if anyone knows a step by step that is a bit clearer, i'd love to get all my work back. please shoot me an email at otfinoski@sbcglobal.net. i greatly appreciate it...

More info required, A link to the solution you found would be helpful too.
Can you find any of the files that were in your home folder?
