Do you think at this point Apple employees at their stores are aware that a new model is coming out, and if so do you think the stores still have much inventory of the current configurations?
I'm hoping the rumours are true for an August release!

Apple really does not tell its AppleStore employees anything about products that have not been announced. They are generally more knowlegeable than the average person (because they have a real interest in their job), but they are not given any insider knowledge.

The chances of a leak from that route would be too high. People would give a nod and a wink to their friends etc...

I don't ever remember PC manufacturers keeping new releases such a tight secret. I'm just coming over to the Mac world, but I'm going to wait for the new Imac.
I guess their isn't as much interest in the PC world, so maybe it's a non-issue.

There is going to be an update of some kind in three weeks. Inventories in some locations are running low. You can see this at the apple sotre.

August 7th seems to be a common speculated date.
Think Secret seems certain that a new iMac and iLife '07/'08 comes out the 7th.

I hope Aug 7th is the date! I've been waiting for months to get an Imac and I'm very anxious. Years ago I was a Mac user, but have lived in the dreary world of PC's since. I think the convincing thing for me to make the switch was Vista, not to mention Macs are more fun and reliable.
