Hi! I'm looking for help on what spec mac pro I should purchase please. I am a photographer so will be running photoshop CS3 and probably aperture too and/or similar programmes. I work with raw files as well as the tiffs/jpgs. At the moment I'm running CS2 & rawshooter essentials 2006 off my windows based laptop and its soo slow it just gets annoying. I like to multi-task in that I will work on photos in both programmes, browse the net and chat at same (ish) time. Ive already decided on the 23" HD screen and the wireless set up is essential. Mac Pro is probably overkill for my needs but I like the upgrade-ability of the Pro for when I might need it and I don't think the iMac is very attractive (sorry) whereas the Pro is good looking. I need the "minimum" spec for my needs really due to budget restraints and then will upgrade as and when finances allow it but not at the expense of missing something important of course. I know I need to buy the extra ram elsewhere but as I'm in the UK can anyone suggest any stores that would be good for that? thanks soo very much!! Im getting very excited about switching to mac

So you need a Mac Pro at the cost of an iMac? The entry-level Mac Pro doesn't really have an attractive price, I'd have a look at refurbished Mac Pros.

You need to tell us what your budget is before we can help …

Keep an eye on the apple's refurb site. I snagged a 2ghz mac pro for 1999.00. Nice thing about these is you can upgrade the processor when you need to. If you can hold on a bit, prices should drop a little when the pro line gets upgraded this fall.

doesn't have to be iMac prices no I just meant I don't want to spend the top end prices for a totally maxed out machine straight from Apple. My max budget from Apple is £3000 so thats like US$6,168. thanks!

For $6100, you can easily snag a base model MP quad 2.66 ($2500) + a nice 22-24" LCD ($6-800), + 2-4GB of ram + 2-3 big HDD's (do NOT buy from apple) and still have some change left .......

If you intend to work with Aperture, you might want to consider upgrading your graphics card. If you go for Lightroom, don't (Aperture uses the graphics card for pretty much all image manipulations). If you plan to shoot RAW, I would go for more than 2 GB RAM and think about a second screen.
