Hello,

Does the Mac mini support SATA-II hard disks?

The SATA disk drives operate through an AHCI 1.1 controller that supports advanced SATA-II features such as Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and PHY power management. (1)

Would this mean that the SATA-II data transfer rate (2) is supported by the Mac mini?

Edit: only NCQ and PHY of SATA-II

The Intel 945GM chipset in the Mac mini only supports 1.5Gb/s SATA.
There are only a couple 3Gb/s laptop drives on the market, and I don't think any 2.5" laptop drive can even come close to saturating 1.5Gb/s SATA anyway.

Please don't say "SATA-II"; it doesn't mean anything.

Thanks for your answer, accept my apologies, I wrote "SATA-II" taken from the Mac mini's Developer Note
Best Regards

At the time that Developer Note was written, saying "SATA-II technologies" was more or less correct; but since it was misused so much causing lots of confusion (like yours), the Serial ATA International Organization felt the need to deprecate the term.
