My AppleCare recently ran out which was covering my iMac. A couple of days ago my iMac blew the fuse in the plug which was quite unusual. Just thinking that it was a power surge, i replaced the fuse with other ones but alas the mac blew those too.

I have a feeling that my iMac is sucking in too much power, or that the power chord is faulty seeing as other electronic appliances work from the same power source.

I was wondering if Apple supply customers with new power chords or whether i could buy a general computer plug which the same voltage etc...

Any ideas are appreciated

Thanks

p.s. 17" iMac Intel Core Duo

All iMacs run happily on what we in the trade call "Kettle leads". Many other things run off them too. Make sure the fuse is the same size. How far gone is your Applcare? They can be quite forgiving.....

You could have power supply problems. Fuses blow because of too much current. Do you have an Apple store you can take it to?

Chances are the iMac power cord has a short in it. Replace immediately. Fuse is doing what fuse is supposed to do: Blow when shorted.

I agree. Get a new cord.

Eventually, the component the fuse is protecting will fail. Then the problem will be diagnosed.
