Hello Everyone,

I had big problem with my iMAC and I would like to ask for your helps
I have 2 iMAc, they are exactly the same. let's say iMAc1 and iMAC2

iMAC2 is OK

Problem:
iMac1 start with a folder and question mac flashing

Can not start up from the installation DVD(Retail version), tried to hold "C" key>> not working. Tried to hold "Option" key>>

display only Machintos HD.

I tried to connect to iMac2 by FireWire cable. It's working, i can see both DVD drive and Machintos HD of iMac1. I tried to

run Disk Utility-->Verify Disk and Repair Disk, all pass I did not see any error from the Hdd of iMac1.

I decided to reinstall MAC OS X on iMAC1 using iMAC2 by connecting Firewire cable, so far the installation was pretty good. I

finished the installation, I continue booting into iMAC1(by keep running on iMAC2), I updated everything. After that I reboot

to iMAC2, eject iMAC1 HD. Turn off iMAC1.

Turn on iMAC1, it appeared the folder and question mark flashing like before. I suppose it should boot like normal but it did

not. I am very confuse, What have I done wrong? do you know what is going on here?

I have no clue now, any suggestion please help.

Thank you very much.

Depends on which iMacs they are and what version(s) of the OS you are using. If you have an older version of the OS on the install disk or on iMac 2, then if iMac 1 is newer, the OS won't recognize it. Can you specify which models and which version of the OS you're trying to use?

Also, for ease of typing, you can just say iMac instead of iMAC.

So iMac 1 seemed to accept the whole install of 10.4.10 with no directory errors? That is odd, I would zap the PRAM and reset the SMU. See if that slaps some sense into it.

Thanks a lot Sherman gave me a suggestion. I will try to do it follow the link you showed. By the way, iMac1 accepted the whole install of 10.4.10 with no directory errors. Well, I am quite new to Mac so I don't know if this is weird.

Regards,
Sam
