I've got a buddy who bought the wrong ram for his Intel Mac. So...will PC5300 ram work in my PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0ghz? The ram spec'd for my G5 is PC3200 DDR.

Thanks in advance!

Well, your Mac uses DDR. Assuming that's what your friend accidentally bought (and not DDR2, as his machine would require) then I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

But the G5s require RAM to be installed in pairs. So unless your friend has two of these sticks of RAM, you're out of luck.

Assuming it's PC5200 and not PC2-5300 (as Lateralus alluded to) and 1GB or smaller (I don't think the DDR PowerMac G5s can take 2GB modules), then yes, you can put it in your PowerMac G5, but you'll need to install it in pairs.

I'm sure that's a run-on sentence, but I can't figure out where to break it.

edit: On second thought, none of the Intel Macs take PC2-5300 DIMMs... so it could be a SO-DIMM (for all Intel Macs except the Mac Pro), which won't work in a PowerMac G5

The dual CPU, single core G5s take PC3200 400MHz DDR 184 pin up to 1GB per stick (The single 1.6 only needed PC2700);
The Dual-core G5s take 240 pin PC2-4200 533MHz ECC or non-ECC up to 2GB per stick ;
The Mac Pros take 240 pin PC2-5300 667MHz ECC fully-buffered DIMMs with heat spreaders up to 2GB per stick ;
If yours is a single core, the RAM shouldn't even fit. Hope that helps.

Yes, it should fit and work if he correctly identified the RAM.
