I have a Powermac G5 1.6ghz that was given to me rather than throwing it away. Everything was pretty much gone on it. I replaced the logic board, the memory, and the graphics card. It finally starts up and gives me a screen.

However, when it starts up all I get is the startup screen with the Apple logo and the background is purple.

Does anyone know what that means? I've been trying to boot from the optical drive with no success.

Please help!

Thanks!

Could well be a duff graphics card.

If the bad graphics card explains the color of the screen.....why does it hang at the Apple logo. Not even the spinning wheel. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Well if the card is bad then as well as displaying the wrong colours, it may be causing the computer to hang.

I just booted it again and first it shows a folder with the Finder icon in it. Then it hangs at the Apple logo. Does that mean that it can't find the hard drive? I'm also wondering why it won't boot from the optical drive?

Thanks for your help.

You need to keep the C key pressed if you're trying to boot from the optical drive.
