OK, I'm checking specs and configurations. Memory seems awfully expensive! I cannot even fathom the nearly $1,000 more for going up to 4 GB of RAM in a new imac.

So -- I can go with 2 GB OR buy memory elsewhere. Will it be significantly cheaper elsewhere? I tried checking Other World Computing, but it seems to be not an even comparison, though I was checking pretty quickly. If I go with 2 GB from Apple, then if/when I upgrade I'll essentially be throwing away a 1GB stick of memory which seems kind of wasteful.

Otherwise, I'm just in a dither of indecision. I've been waiting so long, but now I find I STILL wish they'd upgraded the Pro line so I could at least consider that. Oh well. I really do need a new computer, so I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go imac. Then my old machine (6 1/2 years), with nice spiffy 20-inch monitor (not quite 2 years) can go to my kids, who will then be required to leave my new imac alone.

20-inch, or 24-inch... I think I'm going 24. As I said, having a hard time with decisions today.

Check out Ramseeker.com or dealram.com

You can get 4 gigs for $180.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I have a 17" and I think it's more than enough screen real estate. I think 20" would be perfect is you're slightly more hardcore than me.

Check the threads about RAM, using the search function of this forum.

I can recommend Crucial. It's quality RAM at very low prices. Nobody right in his wallet buys RAM from apple.
