I own a iMac g4 20inch with a superdrive.

For a bit now, it's been acting weird. It is having trouble reading DVD's that it has burned or burned DVD in general burned on another computer.

It DOES burn DVD, but it can't read them. But I can play NetFlix movies.

Also, it does recognized so DVD's that I burned a long time ago, but some of the ones that used to work, don't.

I'm using Apple media and Memorex. I believe it can burn up to 4x, but I see that my apple media is 8x.

Is getting the wrong speed the problem? Most disc seem to have a range of working speeds all the way from 1x to 32x.

Do I just need to clean the drive? Is this a known Tiger issue?

Any help would be great.

No Tiger issues.

Replace it. They are cheap. It's not worth the trouble of messing around with a failing drive. Aren't the newest G4 iMacs 4 years old by now?

Is that my only solution. It 90% works.

Does iDVD work with external DVD drives now?
