Okay! Now that the Apple stork or is that the Apple tree is bringing me my new Imac I have some questions about the initial set-up. Please note that eventhough I might toss out some tech terms I mostly have no clue...

1.) When I first turn it on, do I need an internet connection to "register" with Apple or something. I don't have internet at my apt. yet (I'm somewhere else using a pc right now, BTW). However, as I live in a somewhat trendy area with lots of coffeshops with wi-fi and such, I may be able to "borrow" some bandwith (stealing is such an ugly word). As I also have a Sony PSP, most of the people (in my building) have Wep type encryption when I try surfing around my area, but I think my Imac's wi-fi- sucking ability - that's the airport thingy right? - is probably a bit more powerful so I might find a hotspot to plug into if available.

2.) What can you tell me (simply, please) about partitioning my HD. Do I need to do it? Is it easy? I know with Leopard that Time Machine sounds cool but I believe I need to use an external hard drive - is that right?
I don't plan on actually installing Windows, but I may do some Windows based gaming. I've seen that parallels but also heard about something called cross-over or something. Any info on this?

One mistake I did make was after I opted for the wireless mouse/keybrd, I just realized that the brand new computer desk I bought has a glass top (oops)

Thanks for your help in advance.

1. You'll be fine without a net connection. You'll have the option to click 'not ready for internet' or something similar. But if you can connect to a free wifi spot for a few minutes to complete the registration, I don't see the harm.

2. Don't bother with partitioning. If you do want to play Windows games, you'll want the best experience possible. That'd come through Boot Camp. Boot Camp will non-destructively partition your Mac for Windows, and can reverse the partition with no Mac data loss, if you change your mind later.
