I've got a close friend, and the guy I sold my dual 2.5Ghz G5 to with a small problem. I recall having this problem before and somehow I fixed it, but now I forgot what I did.

It seems that with his USB printer plugged in to the computer, whenever he puts it to sleep, it goes into a deep sleep and will not wake. Eventually it goes into a vacuum cleaner fan mode and the only thing he can do is shut it down with the power button.

Any ideas?

I think it's an HP printer, but it could be Epson, I have to ask him.

Perhaps you downloaded a later version of the printer drivers. Later than the ones included on the original install disks. Then did a permissions repair after installing the newer drivers.

I was going to check his driver and do a re-instal. The odd thing is all he did was relocate his computer in his office and disconnect the cables and then re-connect them. Why that would do anything to the drivers/software is odd.

Thanks

Sleep issues are common with USB. It probably is the driver. You may find something like a permissions repair will do the trick.

incase anyone stumbles on this thread later for answers.. here it is.

The Belkin (and some others) USB expansion cards don't.... REPEAT, don't work with USB printers.. Which is to say, they'll work fine unless you plan to sleep your machine at some point, wherein they'll cause it to crash/go into a deep sleep.
