I'm looking at buying an iMac in October (or hopefully before when Apple announces a rebate program!) for using for both college work (journalist/publishing/graphic design) and work. Apple UK does a student discount, they also offer VAT free for businesses.

I work for my Dad who owns his own business and so is eligible for VAT free purchases, I got my MacBook this way since it was for traveling for work. So can I use both my student discount and get it VAT free since I'll be using it for both?

I doubt you'll be able to double dip that way, jamie. If you're buying as a student you're not going to be able to buy as a corporation at the same time. I may be wrong since I have no experience over there, but I'm just talking about what makes sense from Apple's standpoint.

You might be better off getting a student developer account and buying it with the one-off developer discount.
You also might get your way if you buy it with student discount and your dad can claim the VAT back later. He would probably have to put it on his credit card. And should ask before buying if the receipt will be a VAT receipt.
