DIY hard disc drive upgrade on the mid-2007 iMac

I've yet to see any document saying hard disc drives are user upgradeable so I'll assume it isnt. So my question is has anyone tried upgrading the hard disc drives themselves? If upgrading the hard disc drive will void warranty I'd wait a year before attempting this. Maybe by then 1TB will cost $100.
