Since I bought my iMac g5 2.1ghz over a year and a half ago I could only play three DVDs.

I consistently get the message "The disc you inserted was not readable by this computer"

DiskWarrior 4.0 could not change that, it obviously had nothing to do with the directory.

When still under warranty, Apple replaced the DVD drive and the logic board. No success.

I can play and burn CDs, burn DVDs, but not play any DVDs.

I once fixed the problem by an archive&install, but a week later I was back on square 1, getting that dreaded "Disc you inserted was not readable..." message. What a pain in the * (Asterisk) for my workflow.

I searched the internet, and found several people having this problem, but no one ever posted a solution or explanation.

Does anybody of the highly computer savy people on this board have an explanation for this?

I just did another archive&install, and it again works.

Whatever is causing this. I hope my iMac isn't a secret alcoholic or takes sleeping pills.

Is it a Combo Drive? There was a firmware update for iMac G5s with Combo Drives last year I believe.

It is a Superdrive. And I updated to 10.4.10.

Could it be bad RAM causing these inconsistencies?

I guess I'll run a hardware test next.
