I have a Dell OEM GeForce2MX flashed to mac firmware and it works in my G4 (Digital Audio) but it only goes up to 1024x768 and im getting a TFT screen and that is capable of 1280x1024. What do i do?

Odd.

I powered my 20" LCD @ 1600x1200 in OS X with a GeForce 2MX before getting my 6200. And everything I'm seeing online says the 2 MX will do 1900x1200.

You sure the 1024x768 limitation you're seeing is with your video card and not with your monitor?

I did try another monitor, it was still showing 1024x768 as max res but the monitor would only go up to 800x600. That makes me think its the card, maybe i need a driver or firmware update? I'm running OS X 10.3.9 Panther

Since this is a PC flashed card, does Apple System Profiler recognize it as a Geforce2MX? What ports does it have, and what port are you using?

What refresh rate are you using if your using a CRT monitor (you didn't mention)? It may be that you have to lower the refresh rate to get the higher resolution.

System Profiler shows it as:

GeForce2 MX:

Type: display
Bus: AGP
Display Type: CRT
Slot: SLOT-1
VRAM (Total): 32 MB
Vendor: nVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0110
Revision ID: 0x00a1
ROM Revision: 1045F

Display:

Resolution: 1024 x 768 @ 75 Hz
Depth: 32-bit Color
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes

It only has a VGA connector, no DVI or TV-Out or any other connectors

Ok... So i just dropped the refresh from 75Hz to 70Hz and now system preferences is showing the max resolution as 1280x1024 but isn't the card supposed to be capable of more than that?

The refresh rate/resolution depends on the card and the monitor. According to Apple the Mac version of the card had the specs NVIDIA GeForce2 MX Graphics Card: Technical Specifications but since you're using a PC flashed one, I'm not sure if it would follow those specs. The other question is what does your monitor support in terms of refresh rates?

Since there's a few unknowns there, I can't tell you if it'll support your new TFT at higher resolutions. You'd have to test it out.

Actually, reading your original post against, if the new TFT is 1280x 1024 and you got that resolution at 70Hz, it's likely it'll support your TFT. LCD displays don't really have a refresh rate, CRTs do.

LCDs do use a refresh rate. It's seldom listed because it's almost always 60 Hz.

Suggestion: switch your resolution & refresh rate to 1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz before swapping the monitors. LCDs are famous for not displaying anything if the signal delivered to them is outside their specs. This makes switching resolutions to within spec somewhat difficult.

Sounds like a RAMDAC limit... as the resolution goes up, the refresh rate goes down.
