I'll soon be making the move from a Mac Mini to a new iMac. I'm running a nice Dell 20" display on my Mac Mini right now and I will most likely hold onto the display when I sell the Mini and use it with the new iMac.

Is anyone here running another 20" display on their 20" iMac? I won't be doing anything major, my most likely situation will be running iTunes or iPhoto on one display while working with Flickr (or other web tools) or doing some work in Pages on the other display. The dual displays will be nice for development as well.

I'm not looking at any considerable slow down am I?

Coming from a G4 I'm guessing it won't bother me a bit but I'm just curious .

I can't imagine you'd run into any problems. Even a 128MB graphics card should be plenty to push a 20" external monitor. I've run a similar setup with my 15" MBP C2D and a 20" widescreen Dell LCD. Never any issues.

I am running an 24" iMac 2.8Ghz with 2G memory and have as a secondary display of a 23" ACD. This works perfectly. No slow down is evident and it allows me to work the way I need. I am a heavy user of lightroom and photoshop.

Hope this helps.

I have an old non-widescreen LCD sitting around; any tips or traps with running one of those as a secondary monitor?

The OS should adopt the correct resolution for both displays automatically, so it shouldn't be a problem. If it doesn't, you'll be able to change it manually (with a second display attached the System Preferences>Displays settings gain an extra window specifically for the second display). The only tip would be to drag the secondary display to the same relative location in the preferences as it is on your desk (that is, to the left, right, above or below the primary display depending on its physical position relative to your iMac) so that it makes visual sense when your mouse moves to the new screen.
