I had access to both type of iMac screen in John Lewis (UK).
Overhead lighting was spots, ideal for this test.
Tilting up both iMac screens so that the spot was visible on top edge, and then screen tilted up slowly, the spots' reflection disappeared completely on the older Matt display, and was still there on the Glossy one, as the spots' reflection went down the screen.
Similarly, putting the spot to one side of LCD display, same result.
Did it spoil the screen display, yes it did, but to be honest, at home, I prefer a darkened room anyway, so it probably won't matter, for me.
However, if there is an option when Leopard appears, I'll go for Matt.

I don't know who Matt is, but I'm not sure he'll be too happy if you go for him.
(Matt should be spelled matte.) ;-)

Steve
We all know you lot can't spell !!
It can be spelt either way.
Matte is the wrong spelling in this context.
Matt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gloss (material appearance) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Matte - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gloss (material appearance) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
So you see, we can both spell it differently, and be correct.
(Colour, color etc...but that's a different thread)
I am English, living in England, and I spell it the English way.
Let's stick to the thread eh...

Even if you're English your capitalization is still wrong.
It's matte (or matt), but certainly not Matt.

Unless it starts a sentence of course. Feeling the need to be right?

Apologies Simon, ( for the dig about needing to right). I misread that and thought the post was from ibook_steve.

Of course. But in the OP's case it didn't:

I think Matt now deserves some peace and quiet.

jbleisure didn't start this thread, so your quoting of him as the first poster is false.

New iMac, old iMac still on sale. Adjacent on display.
Same comparison at Trafford Centre too, two shops (not Apple though)
