I think my Mac may have finally kicked the bucket this morning. First off, I got a kernel panic when trying to scroll through my Mail inbox.

Rebooted, checked mail, surfed for about two minutes -- hard freeze.

Rebooted, started up Mail, hard freeze.

Rebooted -- nothing. No indication it's trying to boot at all.

Any ideas?

Put a voltmeter on the battery. It should read something close to 3.6 volts. If not, pick up a new one.

Well the CMOS battery is still the original one that was installed when I got it 6 years ago. Think I'll just snag one on the way home and give it a shot. Was also thinking might be the onboard ATA/IDE controller that's gone kaput. Might be able to work around that a bit as well -- hello, bootable Firewire! Just pull the boot drive out, slap it in my firewire case and see if I can go offa that.
