Hey Guys,
I tried to use my PC mic on the MP and it does not seem to work. From the research I did, it looks like I need a line-level/self powered mic. Is this correct? and which one do you recommend? I will be using the mic on Skype.

Thanks in advance

I have never had much joy finding these mics in a small, cheap form factor. most are larger pro models. All PowerMacs since the MDD G4 have had this issue. I eventually gave up and bought a Griffin iMic. Then you can use the mic you have.

The Mac Pro has a "line-in" port, which takes a signal much stronger than your microphone will produce. The solution depends on what you need. One solution is to get a USB external sound device (such as an Edirol UA-25, but it seems that Edirol no longer sells them). Check out this site for a range of solutions for good sound:

Depending on your audio needs, you might also consider a voice processor. Behringer used to have a great rig for just over $100 that would give you lots of head room and good sound. This will help you to make great recordings the first time around. Do not be afraid to by a good mic preamp that has analog "line out." Check out this page:

...also be sure that you know the type of connectors that your equipment uses. Pro mics will have XLR connectors as opposed to the stereo mini-plugs.
