RE: Modem for my Power Mac G5
I need to set up a G5 up so that I can receive Faxes in my computer
Power Mac G5 Model#A1047 / M9747LLA May 2005 (earl;y 2005)
Dual 2 Ghz. • OS 10.4.10
This machine was not assembled with an internal modem.
I purchased and installed a Apple External USB Modem
APMU / MA034ZA (REG).
The System Preferences / Print & Fax / Faxing
is set to “Receive faxes on this computer”
The System Preferences / Network Settings / External Modem / Modem
Is set to “Apple External 56K Modem (v.92)” or
also tried “Apple External Modem (v.90)”.
The System Preferences / Network / Network Status displays
(Red Button) External Modem /
“External Modem is configured but not connected”
The phone line is a dedicated line for faxing
The phone line is supplied by Wide Open West Cable Co.
The phone line comes out of a ARRIS TM502G Modem
The TV Cable signal is analog, the Internet connection is
Also Wide Open West.
The computer does answer the line but does connect with the
sending fax machine and the connection fails. Aprox. one out of
6 attempts the computer receives the fax.
If the HP Office Jet G85 (Printer, Fax, Scanner, Copier) is
Connected to the fax phone line it receives all incoming faxes.
As a side note my G4 800Mhz. OS 10.3.9 / built in modem is able
to receive faxes on the same phone line consistently.
Is there a Modem or and Software I can use that will connect
with the sending fax machines?

Are you using an Apple modem cable (phone cable)? Lots of Mac dial up users had trouble using ordinary phone cables with their modems.

I have switched the phone cables so the Apple Phone Cable is going to the modem. I will find out tomorrow if this works.
