I am able to change the name of the accounts without a problem but when I turn the computer on and it has the OS X screen with the accounts, right under the OSX it has the previous owner of the computer listed there. How can I change it to me?

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for....
Go to System Preferences
Go to Internet & Network
Go to Sharing
Change Computer Name

You cannot change the account name simply by renaming the home folder. You actually shouldn't do that because you'll likely get into a lot of trouble.
If you really want to rename user accounts (making a new one and copying over is certainly the easier option) you should read this and try to follow the directions given there.

Create a new user and delete the old one.

If I understand the second part of the OP's question, then Macvoid is right. The Sharing name is what shows up at the log in screen. As for the first part of the post, you really will hose the netinfo database if you manually try to change the User's home directory name.

If you don't have any files to backup, and since this a used computer and you are the new owner, the easiest method is to do a erase/reformat and reinstall of OS X. This way the Mac starts off on a clean slate.

Not necessarily, I had much success editing the short name using NetInfo Manager, although I understand it's easy to make a mistake.

The current name of the computer is Clinton's White Computer. Since my name is Eric I guess I would want to change it to that.
Reinstalling OSX isn't really an option.

Didn't you get the answer you were looking for in the first response then?
