I have an iMac PowerPC G3 (white) 10.3.9 and have been having trouble with my emails for months now. My emails show as recieved and I get this message with all of my emails:
The message from "Ann Smith" <annsmith@gmail.com> concerning “Meeting yesterday” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.

Of course....I am 'online'. This has been extremely frustrating, my friend has a much newer G4 and now IT is doing the same thing with her emails. Oh, and I Can send emails, just can't open the ones that come to my Inbox.

Anyway, I accidently clicked the 'Rebuild' option and tried to immediately stop it but it was too late and it instantly all of my emails in my Inbox vanished...over 11,000 !!! My 'Sent' and all my other folders can be read and were not wiped out. Just my 'Inbox'.

Is there any hope in retrieving these emails back???? (even though I cannot open them, I still want them back) Thanks!

Maybe they're still on the server. Log in to gmail on the web and see if they're there.

What email client are you using, ie Mail app or entourage etc ?

Who is your email account with?

IMAP or POP3?...sounds like POP3.

I had something similar happen a couple of years ago when using entourage on 10.3.9

Use IMAP, not POP3, if you were using POP3, you might be able to find your emails locally on your machine, but it's not that likely.

Look here: HD -> Users -> User Name -> Library -> Mail and see if you have your Inbox or accounts listed as a folder. If you do, then point Mail back toward that folder using File -> Import Mailboxes.
