I have my new mac mini hooked via dvi-to-hdmi to a 1080p samsung. If I enable "overscan" on the mini dislpay I lose the edges (including the top menu bar). If I disable overscan I get a fat black border (at least 3"+ on each side).

Help! I got the mini for just this purpose and this is bumming me out.

What type of media are you trying to watch? Standard TV (4:3) will have black bars on the side on an HD set.

What model is the Samsung? What resolution are you trying to run it at?

The Mac mini correctly and automatically boots up on 1920x1080. The TV is a Samsung HL-T6187S. The black borders show up with the Mac desktop (and anything else shown thereafter, including full 720P and full HD video).

Looks like you can use VGA with that TV to get 1:1 pixel mapping... really silly, but not uncommon.

edit: One last thought, try changing the refresh rate with the DVI/HDMI hookup to something other than 60Hz... 59.952 or 60.02 or whatever.
