I have two identical Mac Pros - ok identical except one has 8 gigs of ram the other 10, also the one with 8 gigs has the big 31 inch Apple monitor. The 10 gig one has a 21 inch monitor.

The one with 8 gigs of ram can't run firefox worth a damn. It is so slow that I can't even drag the firefox window around. I have no idea why this is. I am forced to use safari on that mac. The one with 10 gigs, has no problems running the mac.

Both macs have the same apps, same plugins for firefox, same version of firefox.

Any suggestions? Should I just re-install the Mac OS on the 8 gig MAc Pro? Should I add 2 more gigs of ram? I dont think Ram is an issue because the macs dont use that much, plus I really dont run any intensive apps. My biggest app is parallels.

It's certainly not a question of adding more RAM. This behavior only occurs in Firefox? Does it occur in all users? Have you reinstalled? See any conspicuous Console messages while you're running it?

Good question about it occurring in all users. I will create a new user on that Mac and see. No console messages. Things eventually load. I initially thought the higher resolution is what the bottle neck is. Both Macs have the XTI1900 ATI card in it.

It can't be your RAM because I have a lot less than you do and Firefox works on my computer. Try uninstalling Firefox including all your user profiles and other Firefox files on your computer. Reinstall Firefox after doing so and then reinstall each extension one at a time to see if one of them is creating a problem.

I also think it's a sw issue. Trash the prefs, etc. for Ff also while you're at it. Those could be corrupt.

OK - uninstalling the downloadthem all plugin helped quite a bit. Still slow, but a lot faster.

OK - turns out the problem was a Seagate 750 gig drive. Ever since I installed it I noticed the system was slower. Today I took it out and the system is back to its speedy self. Weird I didnt get any indication of this from log files, etc. Thanks to all for help!
