I know that parts of this have been coverd in other posts, but my question is a little different:

Its my understanding that if you get 'matched' RAM and fill all four slots in a bay you get the max RAM 64 bit access. or somthing like that.

how about this: I have in the top slot: the two RAM's 512 that came w the computer, and 2 1GB that came as the same time.

Im assuming I get some sort of 'boost' as all 4 slots are filled but not the 'max' boost as they are of different sizes.

I may be getting 4 x 1 GB for the lower bay, 'matched'

do these in the lower bay perform less than best due to the mix and match in the upper bay?

should I put the 4 x 1 GB in the upper bay and inprove performance?

I very very much doubt its worth changing anything in the current upper bay ( dump the 512 and get 2 x 1 GB ( now not matched) to get some ??? performance boost.

cheers and thanks

Each pair of slots (there are four pairs) must have the same memory capacity.

With one pair of modules on each riser, you've maxed out the memory bandwidth capacity. It doesn't matter what size they are.
