I have my media on a NAS - a lot of music (MP3s), photos (JPGs), and videos (AVIs and others) on a network drive, running CIFS (Samba). I can see them fine from my new mac mini. I have Perian installed and can play most of the videos.

But I cannot seem to get FrontRow to see them at all -- not music, no photos, and no videos. I get various messages about needing validation (there is NO protection on those folders) to setting up iTunes (with no further help).

PLEASE help me out with some simple steps to get FrontRow to see and play what I have on the network drive safely i.e. preferably without mucking too much with my existing files or folder structures, and without making a whole new copy of all that stuff somewhere else.

Do I have to do something separate in iTunes, iPhoto, or some iVideo-equivalent programs to make this work?

Thanks!

I haven't used FrontRow much, but I always assumed they were tied to the user's home folders, particular the iTunes, Movies, and Pictures folder. I wasn't aware it could be configured to read from other locations. I suppose you could move your folders to an external volume and then create an alias.

put aliases of the external folders in your users "movies" folder
They will show up in Front Row.
