Like an idiot, I upgraded my firmware to 1.2 in my Mac Pro. Everything worked great but I temped fate. After the update, now application crash for no reason. Safari, Disk Utility, whatever. I want to go back to firmware 1.1. And I have the Firmware Restoration CD that I burned two or three weeks ago. I followed the directions found here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303469
But I cannot get the stupid firmware CD to do anything after holding down the on-off button and looking at the flashes. The computer simply reboots from an internal HDD. What am I doing wrong? Help! Safari may explode any moment.

If you look at that article again, you will see the following.

So, you're out of luck.

Have you tried a clean install of the operating system (preferably on a separate hard drive so you can start with a clean set of preferences instead of an archive and install), and see if the issues are still there?
The firmware restore CD only works if a firmware update fails to completely install, leaving your computer unusable. It looks like in your case, the firmware update worked, but you're now having crashes.
Try a reinstall and see if things work better for you. If they do, the new firmware itself is not to blame.

Are you sure your case is related to the firmware?

I restarted as a single user and angerly hammered in /sbin/fsck -fy and then ran it again just to be sure that the drives were good to go and then told the box to reboot. I haven't had the problem since but once in a while on start-up, this box is flaky and there is no ryme or reason to it and has been since the day I got it.
