I did some looking around the internet on the two video adapters, and it seems the nvidia geforce 2 nx 32mg is a bit faster...

Yea, GF2MX is faster than a Rage128... but is it really worth your while to upgrade? Ancient machine + ancient video card = not much

i know what you are talking about....and the better g4,s ,,, with pc 2100 or pc 2700 are getting a premium,,,i can buy a g5 1.8 dual for about the same price. the 800ghz quicksilver is not that bad, more like a pentium 3 is what i am thinking.....quess i am not looking for a power pc,,,sort of going cheap . but my thinking is that even a dual , 1.25ghz quicksilver, with a 9800 pro, would be nothing to sneeze at, with ddr2 memory. what do you think

If someone came to me saying they were thinking of upgrading from a P3 to a dual P3, I'd tell them they should get their head examined. But I understand used Macs are a unique market due to the lack of options and price of upgrades.

But to answer your question, I'd have to ask: whats your current computer, what do you do with it, and why do you feel the need for an upgrade?

mduell

well, i sort of get the drift on your assessment in regards to the mac g4,s... but the mirrored g4s with pc2700 should not be to bad,,,,have read a few reviws where folks are quite happy with em...i know mine with pc133mhz sdram,,,,is very similar to p3,s....my problem at the moment is dental bills, otherwise i would not hesitate for a g5 dual 2.0.

We've already advised you against that. The upgraded computer would (by today's standards) still be slow, a lot slower than a dual G5 and worlds slower than an Intel-based Mac mini you can get for the same money that your dream upgrades cost. You have bought pretty much the slowest Quicksilver G4 there is. With little RAM. And a downgraded graphics card (the graphics card you're buying now is about as fast as the stock graphics card it was supposed to have!). Don't waste your money on upgrading it.

One more thing: the Quicksilver G4 takes PC133 RAM, not DDR nor DDR2. Mirrored Door G4s take DDR RAM, not DDR2.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Watch this, the OP will buy the very card you are advising him against, then be back with another raft of questions about whether or not to get a $100 toggle switch so he can switch between the two cards on the fly to compare performance AND which would be the best benchmarks to test with, bringing the cost of his misadventure to beyond a new mini. Hell, while he's at it, why doesn't he get a used Quadro out of a MP and solder it into G4, cause hey, its not integrated videomust be faster right, there must be a way to hook it up... firmware or something.

Dude, yeah, dental bills. We've all got stuff like that, but it does not excuse you from at least listening to the advice you ask for.

I have seeen many, many people spend time trying to dissuade you from pure folly, and yet you keep plowing ahead. If you had listened in the first place you would already have your G5 or mini for the same money and humming along nicely. I repeat, sell, sell, sell take that money plus all you are planning to spend on those upgrades and get that G5 or Mini.

Just out of curiosity, how old are you?
