Ever since I came to the Mac side I haven't regretted it a second.
But now I find myself "needing" to move over to Intel and severely lacking in funds for such a venture.
I have a 6 year old Dell Inspiron 8000 (a trooper to be sure, since it survived sitting in a puddle while playing music [oops]), IBM thinkpad for work, PowerBook G4 Titanium, and a PowerMac G5 (Dual 2.5, 4 GB RAM, GeForce 6800 GT).
Okay so on to my question. I would like to replace my G5 with a MP, and thus need to sell my G5 for ....?
How much should I ask? Is there any point or will no one buy it? I know these aren't normal questions, but all advice is welcome.
Please no "fanboy" answers as they are tiresome.
Thanks

A dualcore G5 isn't that old... people who need a capable PPC machine will buy it.
Completed eBay auctions put it at perhaps $1200.
Of course, don't buy the shiny new Mac Pro until they've been updated.

If you want to replace your PowerMac with a Mac Pro, you would need to sell it for more than $2499... obviously that won't happen. I'd wait until the Mac Pros get an update- they sorely need them- and think about it then. A dual core PM G5 is still a plenty modern computer.

The bottom Mac Pro is $2200... or he could buy a refurb.

With a 6800, thats not a Dual Core. Even so, they are holding their resale value among Protools users waiting for an Intel update. Don't expect a miracle, but that unit ought to pay for half a Mac Pro. If you sell it to an audio user, you might be better off getting a cheap FX5200 for it and selling the 6800 seperately.
