I need help (what a surprise) I was using my Mac and the finder started to relaunch, it just keeps relaunching over and over again and I can’t stop it.

I was told by apple to re-install the applications that came with it, I did that and I thought that fixed it, it did but only for about 12 seconds than it started happening again.

I than was told to do a hardware test, I am currently running this; I do not know the results as yet.

Can anyone kindly suggest what I can do with it leaving taking it in to be serviced as a last resort/option?

Thanks

p.s. the hardware test just finished and it says the extended test is complete and no hardware problems have been detected

If you have Stuffit installed, it could well be the context menu plugin causing problems, otherwise if it's bad hardware, it's most likely to be RAM.

Hold down shift as you log into your account to do so in Safe mode (it'll clear some caches and cause any third party software and fonts to be disabled). Then check to see what contextual menu items you have installed - seanc is correct to identify the Stuffit CM item as a prime culprit for this issue, but it could be others.

The last time I had a client with this problem, it was a font conflict.

I booted the machine into Firewire target disk mode (hold down the "T" key on startup), connected it to another Mac via Firewire cable, and removed all user-installed fonts from her home folder ( Hard_drive/Users/username/Library/Fonts/ ).

Fixed the problem immediately.

I am saying that removing all user-installed fonts FIXED THE PROBLEM.
