(Please see next post, I posted some updates about the problem.)

Hi all,

A few months ago I noticed these spots on my iMac's screen. They're there all the time, but become extremely visible over white or other light colors. Does anyone know what this is and if there's any way to fix it?

Here's a little update that will hopefully shed some light on this problem.

The dots have changed!!? This proves that they are not a permanent defect in the lcd, and can possibly be fixed! The problem is, I have no idea how.

This is what they currently look like:

You can see how this is different from the picture above. The one in the upper right is actually a new one that originated in the menu bar and has moved lower. This happened over only a couple days. Then today I had the iMac face down to mess with some ram and when I turned it back on, it looked like one of the original dots had disappeared and the other two had merged.

I was thinking maybe some drops of water or something are in the lcd? This started back in March or April, so I don't know if water would stay in there for that long or how it would have gotten in there in the first place.

Any ideas?

Yes that's what I was going to say, it's happening between the Glass & LCD screen.

I forgot to mention that this is a white iMac. Can it still have the condensation problem?

I don't think it can, no.

I think that the pixels are touching the plastic sheet in front of them, that would explain why they changed when you put the imac on its screen.

Maybe you shoud try to "massage" the area around the spots. If it is what I think it is, the spots should start to move, and maybe you can get rid of them this way.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it and nothing happened.

This is so frustrating because since they recently moved and changed, it proves that there must be some way to fix it!! Oh well, at least it's a puzzle for me to deal with, haha. Any more suggestions?

do they change at all WHILE massaging them? Because it really does look like the pixels are pressing. Try laying the iMac on it's back and see if they are still there. Be careful not to jar it too much, though, just t be safe..

They don't move at all when I massage them, and I've tried laying the iMac down several different ways. They're so weird looking. I don't know much about how LCD's are constructed, but they almost look like they're "behind" the pixels. I just took these two pictures to try and better show what I mean:

I originally thought they were permanent, but now that I realized they can change, I'm obsessed with trying to get rid of them. I really do appreciate all the help!

I've seen this before...they're not bubbles..they're Nanites!!! "Evolution" (Star Trek: The Next Generation #49)

Just don't let any Type A physicists attack them and they will migrate off on their own eventually.
