Applecare Protection Plan for iMac/eMac - eBay, Other Apple items, Apple, Macintosh, Computers. (end time 31-Oct-07 23:29:31 AEDST)

Noticed this on ebay today. Was just wondering if people can actually sell Applecare protection plans. I thought that was only something you could buy from an apple store because they would have to register it with your computer

Until it's activated, it's a commodity, and the listing says it's unopened.

I'd be concerned about it being legit, but the theory is sound. You don't have to buy AppleCare at an Apple Store. I've bought AppleCare at a number of different places, all very much valid.

Sure you can sell them. They're not 'used up' until registered/activated.

AppleCare registration is usually done over the web. I don't know if Apple has regional keys (i.e. certain numbers are sold in certain regions), but so far it hasn't mattered much. Of all the Macs I've owned, I only bought it at the Apple Store once -- that was at full price. I've since learned other stores, including Amazon and LACC, sell it for far less.

Regarding eBay, the usual rules apply: make sure to deal with a reputable seller (check and read ratings) and pay with a Credit Card for additional protection (or use PayPal protection if available, though I don't really like dealing with eBay/PayPal).
