Will be picking up my new iMac for Christmas! Can't wait to untagle the mess of cables behind my pc.

My question concerns the 'audio out' on the iMac. Sitting right beside my computer station is an audio receiver. My PC was outputting my music via a toslink digital cable.

I see from the technical specifications of the iMac that the audio output is a minijack. Is this the only audio out?

It's an 1/8th inch jack that supports both headphone-style plugs and the TOSlink optical adapter. There's a little plastic adapter that snaps onto the square-ish digital optical cable and plugs into the Mac.

I've got the 24" iMac and I have the optical output running to a pair of Edirol MA-15 powered monitors.

Incidentally, it's the same jack configuration as the Airport Express uses.

p.s.- I see that most are referring to the specific size as "Mini TOSlink". If you've never purchased an optical cable that had them included, now's your chance to do so. You can buy the adapters separately as well.

you have a mini toslink --> toslink cable. So i need an 1/8" jack to mini toslink adapted?

Yup they are just little plastic snap-on pieces that have the regular squareish jack on one side and the headphone-looking 1/8" plug on the other... for example,
