I think my title just about says it all...but in any event, I have a spare latest gen Mac Mini, can I use it for time machine, perhaps by booting up the machine in drive mode? What cable would I need to have for this to work? Any complications I should know about?

cheers.

All you need is a FireWire or USB cable. But that's one expensive, relatively small backup drive that's a waste of a computer! Just get a drive enclosure for $20 to $40 and drop a huge SATA 3.5" drive in there.

Or, you put Leopard on it and have it be a Time Machine share for all the computers on your network (not to mention Bittorrent client!).

Would you mind explaining the premise of a time machine share?

He's saying use it as a network drive and use it for Time Machine on multiple computers. I don't know if that makes much sense if you're talking about the mini's internal because it's so small, however.

If you really don't need the mini, sell it on eBay or somewhere and buy a nice big hard drive for about one quarter what you could get for it.
