i left my g5 switched off for 7 months when i went to turn on it powers up for a second then switches itself off. tried changing battery inside and pressing pmu reset button but no joy. does anyone know if this is a power supply problem or a logic board problem or is it something else?

It could be either. These machines can be awkward to troubleshoot, even with an ESD workstation, lots of tools and a spare one for testing parts.
If it starts then stops, It would seem more likely to be the board I'm afraid. Having said that, if you have a dual core (particularly one with the 1KW PSU) its probably the PSU.
