Hello everybody!

I am (hopefully) about to pick up a 20" iMac G5 2.0 (ALS) for very cheap. I mean CHEAP! Anyhow, it has some unusual issues. I have had indirect troubleshooting experience with the iMac, which was given up on.

It was starting to lock up and just having all around weird problems. It was rebooted and then it wouldn't let you log in anymore or would stick on the blue screen. It would just lock up when you entered your info. I told them to try safe mode, which it does boot to and works perfectly, aside from the things disabled by safe mode.

The log was showing that it was locking up on bonjour. Which maybe points to networking. It HAS had an erase and install, but exhibited the same problem. Like I said my information is via a middleman so I might not have a complete picture.

Basically, I wanted to throw around some ideas until I can get my hands on it. I have done some searching and I found that some of the G5 iMacs had capacitor issues. It is clear that whatever the problem is, it is mitigated or extinguished in safe mode and thus allowing it to boot. Any ideas as to what it could be?

Thanks everybody!

If you like to repair computers like others enjoy crossword puzzles, that's the computer for you.

Otherwise, you might lose more nerves than the savings are worth.

I do indeed enjoy repairing computers, the thing is I am pretty sure I can fix it. I am buying it for the price in the neighborhood of $100. So I think it is worth it

After doing some more research I found that there was a power supply recall on this model, it has to have a specific EMC # though. So I am going to check that out.

Really just want to know if anyone has encountered something like this before.
