I have 20 jpeg images in a folder saved on my desktop approx 13mb total in size. Originally they were in iPhoto but I have modified them using Photoshop. I now want to copy them to a reduced file size so that I can send them easily via email. Is it possible to batch copy these to a new folder? I am running OSX 10.4.11 and Thunderbird.

You can import them back into iPhoto and use the mail export function. It will give you four choices of file sizes. Select thunderbird in iPhoto's preferences for mail

Yes I tried that but some of the images corrupted (possible due to Photoshop work). Also I have tried on a previous occasion to send images via iPhoto but found that I cannot choose Thunderbird as my email client (it is not available as a choice) because as I understand it, this being a web based email server.

There is no such thing as a web based email server. IMAP is IMAP, and chances are your server speaks IMAP. If iPhoto doesn't recognize Thunderbird this is purely iPhoto's fault, not your mail server's.
Is there anyway to force Thunderbird to be recognized?

I seem to getting confused now. I always thought you had to have a .mac account to use apple mail - is this not so? If I load all my server account information into apple mail will it work just the same as thunderbird?
Also with reference to iPhoto and sending images I found this on one of my previous postings .....
iPhoto uses AppleScript to hand photos over to e-mail applications. No AppleScript support in Thunderbird, no access to it from iPhoto.
If you do use Mail.app, it has an auto-resize option when sending photos.

Apple Mail will work with any POP3 or IMAP server, including .Mac.

After much agonising I came to the conclusion that to fully achieve the result I wanted the solution was to send the files in bite-size chunks i.e. separate emails to which I did. I post this as a possible reference to anyone with the same problem. Often the simplest answer is usually too obvious!
Thanks for the tips anyway.

Wrong. Thunderbird needs to be able to handle AppleScript for iPhoto to be able to use it. This would be Thunderbird's fault.

To create a new message with the photos on it? Fine, I didn't think of this... Thunderbird is to blame for not supporting Applescript for this function, I stand corrected.
My main point and direction I was going here was that this is mail server agnostic.

What about Automator? Surely a workflow exists that will run down a folder of images.

I have to admit being a newbee to Mac software as I had never heard of Automator. I have checked Wikipedia on this and got the gist, but would appreciate any quick tips as far as my problem is related. It seems complicated to me at first glance.

Well embarrassingly 10 minutes of research into my Mac "Bible-for dummies" and here it all is. Now all I've got to do is work out how to create a workflow!
