Hi!
I just bought a new iMac, and I'm having problems with videos. The images are blocky and there is a decent amount of artifacting.
This includes youtube videos, DVDs, AVIs and even MOVs (but I'm not sure about this one, I have only tried one, which could be of low quality).
Any advice?

Is that as seen on iMac, or as exported to DVD etc ?
In iMovie, there are options for viewing quality.
Everything you mention, apart from DVD's are low resolution / quality anyway.

As seen on iMac. You mean DVD player for the viewing quality?
It's not low quality, the same videos viewed from windows are just fine.

Youtube videos are highly compressed, low resolution, crap quality. The problem is the souce, not your mac.
Do you also experience poor quality while playing DVDs on your iMac? Give us some details in which way it is bad quality. Is it low resolution? Noise? Off colors?

If you see blocky video with artifacts on a DVD, there's surely something wrong hardware wise with your system.

Unless he's not talking about storebought DVDs, but crap-quality single-layer copies or DVDs burned from other low-res formats.

More information is definitely needed. How does text look? How do still images look? What Youtube videos are we talking about? Some of them start out with crap source video and go downhill pretty quickly after that.
Details, PotatoSpirit, details!
