I am attempting to help a friend with Start problem on a Power Mac G4 AGP machine. When it starts, it performs great. However, on occasion after shutting it down, nothing happens when the Start button is next pushed. Repeated attempts to start the machine also fail. Then, after perhaps 2 or 3 days, pushing the Start button will result in a normal startup
except the date will have been reset until the machine automatically detects the current date.
I have suspected a problem with the small board behind the Start switch (no spare available) and also perhaps a cold solder joint somewhere. Battery voltage seems ok. I have also depressed the switch (PMU, I believe) near the battery without benefit.
Any ideas or suggestions for isolating/fixing the problem or a way to bypass the startup board as a test would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob
