I am looking for a mini to use as a home server. There are a number of "new" Core Duo minis available on eBay and other places like buy.com for reasonable prices.

My other choice would be a refurbished 1.8 Core 2 duo for $499.
10.5 is not an issue because I have a family pack.

The Core 2 Duo models can hold 3GB right?

Are there any differences in fan noise level between the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo models?

Any other advantages of the Core 2 duo?

Thanks,
ac

They can hold 4GB, but you can only use 3GB. While the CD models only support 2GB.

Haven't noticed any difference.

It is slightly faster, addresses more RAM, and in some cases comes with a larger HDD. Additionally, the 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini has 4MB vs. 2 MB L2 cache.
