Greetings!

I'm not sure if this is the place to put this post, so I'll give it a try.

The problem is somehow my Mac Pro seemingly arbitrarily disconnects itself from the internet. We have DSL with no router. Additionally, I added 8 gigs of RAM about a month age, but the problems began yesterday. Once the internet connection disconnects, it's a PIA to get back on.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advanced.

You mentioned the problem started just yesterday. Did that coincide with any system or application updates?

First thing to try is turning off your DSL modem. Turn it off, unplug it from its power brick, and let it sit for 3 minutes. Then power it back on.

The only thing that changed yesterday is I installed new cordless phones; hardly the probable cause. (Again, I don't have a router, and the phones are the 6.0 kind) Also, I've unplugged and shut off my modem. I had to call AT&T yesterday to get back online. They had me make a new 'location' and I was able to get back on. The issues still seem apparent. I'm really hoping the issue is with the modem, and not on the inside of the 'puter.

Do you have any other computers that you can try on the same DSL connection? Are the cordless phones on the DSL line?

I think I may have found the problem. Also, excuse me, as I'm a little computer dumb.

In the little box this sits in the upper right hand corner of the screen that looks like this, <->, it kept opening "Ethernet Adapter (en3)" "E..A.. (en2)", and the regular Built-in Ethernet 1. I turned off en2 and en 3 and I ensured the internet connection did not time out after 30 minutes. That has seemed to alleviate the issue.

And...the cordless phones are on the same line as the DSL.

Also, I ran the hardware checker this morning. It did not indicate any problems.

And, today, the screen went goofy with different colors arranged horizontally. I unplugged the monitor, restarted the computer, and everything seems fine.

I really hope I'm not going crazy!

Thanks again!

Try disconnecting all phones and see if it fixes the issue. If it does, carefully reinstall making sure that each line has the required filter (and that none of said filters are defective) as specified by the DSL provider.

All phones (and home alarm, if rigged to the phone line) will need filters between them and the RJ11 wall jacks. Otherwise they will bleed right into the high frequencies reserved for DSL.

Thank you all for your responses. Both phones do have the DSL filter between the telephones and plugs.

I have not had any problems with connectivity since turning off the Ethernet things. I believe they may have been created/turned on when I was on the phone with AT&T when they were assisting me with the connection.

Thanks again!!!!
