I'm not of the generation that was brought up with computers, so I'm not that computer savvy... and... I can be a klutz! I would like to find a site that shows detailed steps on how to install new ram into a new 24" 2.4 iMac (which I plan to order soon). Apple wants an obscene $850 to order the iMac with 4 gb's of ram, so I'd like to see if this is something I could, in fact, do myself. I've read that installing more ram into the iMac is 'easy'.. ??? The other option would be to purchase the ram from some place like Crucial and find someone locally who could install it for me.... surely it won't cost $850!!!

Thanks!

Try Apple. Start with this Apple article on installing or replacing the RAM in your "Mid 2007" iMac. It really, really is super simple to do, and the instructions I pointed out are straightforward and very well illustrated. You need a good, #0 Phillips screwdriver and a towel. It really is very easy-relax.

ifixit.com also has directions.

Newegg has the memory for about $80.

Ah, the towel. What would we do without it? Truly a versatile tool.

It is, of course, the most useful thing to have in the entire galaxy! Never leave your planet without one. ;-)

(Thank you, Douglas Adams!)

I don't think Dougie had this particular application in mind when he related the most important advice in the galaxy, but hey, it works!
